In einer Welt, in der die Targaryen in Valyria und in Westeros um Macht und Drachen ringen, bricht ein Konflikt aus, der die Länder in Angst und Schrecken versetzt. Daenerys, die in Westeros herrscht, steht plötzlich vor einem Ultimatum der Targaryen in Valyria: Sie soll ihre Drachen zurückgeben, die aus dem alten Valyria stammen. Die Nachricht von Daenerys' Dracheneiern, die aus Valyria stammen, hat die Targaryen in Valyria auf den Plan gerufen. Diese herrschen nun im alten Valyria und sehen in den Drachen von Daenerys eine Bedrohung für ihre Macht. Der Konflikt eskaliert, als beide Seiten versuchen, ihre Interessen zu verteidigen. Daenerys muss Verbündete in Westeros suchen, um gegen die Valyria-Targaryen bestehen zu können.
