Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves. The gods felt bad for these halves, and did what was right by at least giving them a way to find one another. At a very young age, usually when someone becomes conscious of the world around them a string will appear on their ring finger. A string only they can see and touch. This string is what will guide a person to their soulmate, even pulling them together if they're close enough.
